23.4372 degrees - that is the inclination of the axis of the earth with respect to the sun due to which the seasons Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring exist simultaneously on our planet, making the vibrant city of Buenos Aires the ideal place to host the Summer Youth Olympics Games 2018. In the upper part of the medal are represented the Greenwich meridian inclined at 23.4372 degrees as well as the equator and the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn symbolizing planet Earth. In the lower part, you can see a podium with three young athletes made out of diverse textures, mirroring the diversity of the Olympic teams and alluding to the historical first instance of gender parity amongst Olympic participants. The three finalists are embracing themselves and facing the world. They are demonstrating to society -and in particular the Youth- with a gesture as simple as a hug, the importance of companionship and fair play as the essence of the games. However, these three athletes are not only hugging each other, but they are embracing the planet, as such. They are committing themselves to get to know new cultures and to promote values such as solidarity, social responsibility, effort, and dedication. The athletes are leading by example through the Learn & Share Program using sport as a vehicle for positive social change for the world.
