LUXURY EV CONTROL KNOB

Development of a compact multifunction control concept for a premium electric interior, designed to combine luxury materiality, tactile interaction and digital functionality within a single refined object. The project explored how multiple vehicle functions could be condensed into one visually calm control point, reducing interface clutter while preserving intuitive use and a strong sense of perceived quality. Crystal, metal, haptic feedback, touch interaction and a dedicated background display were integrated into one layered interface system, allowing the component to shift from a silent luxury detail when inactive to an intelligent control element when in use.

From silent luxury to intelligent control

Luxury, when silent — knob in dormant state
Technology, when needed — knob with active interface

When inactive, the component reads as a refined luxury detail. When activated, it reveals a layered interaction system designed to expand functionality without increasing visual noise inside the cabin.

One control, multiple functions

The knob was designed to manage multiple vehicle functions through one compact interaction point, reducing interface clutter while preserving intuitive use and visual clarity.

A dynamic interface system

The central touchscreen and the dedicated display behind the black crystal work together as one system, adapting graphics, colour and feedback to each active function.

Inside the Knob

Exterior Presence — assembled knob on display surface
Internal Architecture — layered interaction system exploded view

Behind its calm exterior, the knob is built as a layered interaction system. A dedicated background display, central touch surface, haptic click feedback, electronic core, LED illumination and textured crystal ring work together to combine functional complexity with luxury presence.

Layered Interaction Architecture

The project was developed as a compact architecture of visual, tactile and material feedback. Each layer contributes to a different aspect of the interaction, from touch and click response to illumination, surface expression and display integration.

Precision in a compact object

The component was designed to feel highly resolved in every state: as a sculptural luxury detail when off, and as an advanced multifunctional interface when active.

My Contribution

I developed the project from the initial concept to its formal and visual resolution, including the interaction architecture, component design, 3D modelling, texture development and the relationship between the knob and its dedicated background display. My role also included defining the tactile logic of the system, balancing touch, rotation, click feedback, illumination and visual hierarchy within one compact interface.

Process

Concept development, interaction design, layered interface logic, 3D modelling in Rhinoceros, texture development, visualisation in KeyShot, and AI-assisted workflows for interface animation and storytelling.
